MINES INFORMATIONS
Gara Djebilet – Oued Amizour – Des réserves d’or – Zinc – Phosphate
– Currently, the mining sector accounts for only 1% of Algeria’s GDP, a modest figure considering the country’s reserves.
– The Oued Amizour deposit is estimated to contain 34 million tons of lead and zinc ore. The Ministry of Energy and Mines plans an annual production of 170,000 tons of zinc concentrate. According to studies conducted by Terramin and its partners, the exploitation of this deposit could produce 129,300 tons of zinc concentrate and 26,000 tons of lead concentrate annually over 21 years. The exploitation of the Oued Amizour lead and zinc deposit is expected to start in 2026.
– The first iron ore concentrate production unit, with a capacity of 1 million tons per year, will be established as part of a partnership between “Tosyali” and “Feraal.” This unit is scheduled to start production in 2026, alongside the launch of the railway line connecting Gara Djebilet and Béchar.
The Gara Djebilet iron deposit is ranked the second-largest in the world in terms of reserves, with 3.5 billion tons, of which 1.7 billion tons are exploitable, with a high iron content of 58.67% but a phosphorus content of 0.8%. Exploitation began in 2022, with a goal to produce up to 50 million tons annually by 2040.
– A budget of $32 million has been allocated to identify the most promising deposits.
– The Integrated Phosphate Project (IPP) of Bled El-Hadba (Tébessa) aims to position Algeria as one of the leading exporters of fertilizers, with an expected annual production of over 6 million tons of phosphate-based products. This mining site also includes a new railway line to connect the phosphate mine to the Eastern mining railway project, linking multiple mines to processing and transformation plants.
The project is expected to facilitate the transport of more than 10 million tons of phosphate per year extracted from Bled El-Hadba, alongside its processing, treatment, and exportation, potentially generating $2 billion in annual revenue.
Algeria is among the richest countries in phosphate reserves, with an estimated 2.2 billion tons.
– Algeria has gold reserves estimated at 173.6 tons, with promising deposits such as Amsmassa. After a decade of inactivity, several mines, including Tarek and Amsmassa, have been reopened, and production exceeded 350 kg in 2022.
Gypsum is experiencing solid growth in Algeria. In 2022, production reached 2.5 million tons, with deposits mainly concentrated in the Ziban region in the southeast.
